We were very interested to test out this new technology and eagerly unpacked this machine.

Pluses

The clean room certified level of particle reduction is extremely appealing. The level of particle reduction compared to most hepa filters is quite remarkable. This would make this filter particularly effective for the removal of fine particles like cat dander. This machine is beautifully styled and definitely wins the beauty pageant. It is very compact and portable , so you could put it in the car to take on vacations. We found the filters were easy to change and could be done by the most mechanically inept of our testers.

Minuses

Healthway have had such a demand for these machines that they have not been outgassing some of them before shipping. Our test model threw off an unpleasant odor causing one of our staff to get a headache and other to have itching eyes. A call to the factory revealed the problem and we were advised to put the machine in a room where there were no people and run it for a couple of hours. In fact we found it to be considerably longer before the unit was odor free. We were not happy campers over this one although the factory assure us they are rectifying the problem in the future.

This would not be a unit that we would recommend for odor removal. The carbon filter consists of a small carbon dust impregnated pad which you remove every three months or sooner at a cost of $7.50 each time. The problem is that a carbon pad like this is simply not a particularly effective odor removal method. We would not therefore recommend this machine if you wanted it to remove any heavy odors, even cooking , pet smells, or musty basement smells.

Even on low this is not a quiet machine although the manufacturers claim otherwise. On low the machine was quite audible although for our taste not unpleasantly so. Some people would object to the noise level.

SummaryWe would recommend this machine in all situations where particle reduction to clean air standards is important or where virus and bacteria control are paramount. It is sized for a medium[12x12ft] bedroom ,so is limited in the square footage it covers. Do not try to put it in rooms which are larger than this. This a good machine for a kid’s bedroom especially those with asthma.
