Cleaning the Air in Your House With an Ionic Air Purifier

In today's world of increasing air pollution and environmental hazards you may be considering adding an air purifier to your home to ensure a higher quality of air for you and your family. But what's an ionic air purifier and why should you consider this option?

First, let's discuss exactly what the name "ionic" is all about. An ion is a small charged particle in the air that can be positive, neutral or negative. Over time scientists have found that by increasing the amount of negative ions in the air you can neutralize various airborne viruses and increase your mental and physical wellbeing.

The theory behind this is that the negative ions increase the amount of oxygen that your body takes in on a cellular level, making them and you healthier in the long run. An ionic air purifier uses negative ions in its system to increase the amount of negative ions in your household air, giving you and your family a healthier atmosphere to work and live in.

In fact, negative ion therapy has been found to help those people afflicted with Seasonal Adaptive Disorder (SAD) by helping their brains to regulate the amount of serotonin being produced. High amounts of serotonin have been connected with some psychiatric problems such as depression. By adding more negative ions to your immediate environment you may be able to offset emotional mood swings and possible mental health concerns.

In fact, the highest negative ions are found near large waterfalls, ranging around 100,000 ions per cubic centimeter - which is why fountains are very popular inside and outside most homes! Now while you can't duplicate that in your home you can certainly increase the number of negative ions with ionic air purifiers placed strategically around your home. But how do these machines work?

The air purifier gives a negative charge to a particle, sending it out into the air. The negative ion will immediately seek out a postive ion and attach itself to it, dragging it down to the ground where it will stay on some sort of cleaning element for you to dispose of. In fact, you've already seen plenty of positive ions in your house - pet dander and dust are two examples! Within no time you'll see the effects of the negative ions as they clean the air and fill up the containment unit with dirt and debris that would otherwise be contaminating both your lungs and attaching itself to your skin and belongings.

The other negative ions will then continue out into the room and enhance your environment. Unfortunately negative ions only survive for about thirty seconds so the area covered may be sparse, requiring more than one unit for proper coverage of a large space. As well, these ions are heavier than air and will arc down towards the ground upon leaving the purifier, so you would be best to place your ionic air purifier atop a shelf or at least above ground level. This would allow the particles to fly out from the purifier and achieve the biggest radius of effectiveness in their short life.

Since the negative ions leave the unit and then head for the ground you might want to consider a single unit for each room in your home, if not more depending on the space. Carefully placed units near ventilation grates can help enhance the effects of the negative ions being shot out into the air and encourage a greater effect on the immediate area and other rooms.

An ionic air purifier such as the Ionic Pro is a good investment for any homeowner concerned about the amount of air pollution creeping unseen into your living space. And with a little creative placement for maximum coverage, you and your family can enjoy the positive effects of negative ions for a healthier and longer life!
